HD LCD Televisions
If you are buying a new large screen LCD television then it has to be HD ready. Do you remember black and white television? Well if you do that is the kind of difference that you will see between HD and standard definition, the detail and clarity is breath taking and you will simply refuse to watch anything other than HD ever again once you are used to high definition.
If you are familiar with computers then you will know that you can change the resolution of your display and the screen will also have a maximum resolution. Well HD televisions work in the same way, they have different resolutions and the higher it is the better the picture will be. But don't worry; you don't have to change the resolution of an HD LCD television yourself as the TV will detect the resolution of whatever you are watching and adjust the resolution accordingly.
The resolution can also look a little confusing but it is quite simple, it is made up of a number and then a letter like 1080i. The number simply states how many pixels are used to make up the picture and so it is a simple case of the bigger the number the better. The letter states how the picture is delivered onto the screen as some send half of the picture in one go (interlaced) and others send all of the picture in one go (progressive). The letter 'i' stands for interlaced and the letter 'p' stands for progressive and these are the only two letters that are used, the progressive screens are better as they produce a smoother picture although it can be hard to tell the difference as the picture is delivered to the screen so fast.
The other important thing that you have to understand is that you can only watch material that is broadcast in HD on your HD LCD TV and so if you are watching analogue television on an HD ready LCD television then it will look exactly the same as on a standard television. So you have to have some HD content to watch on your new HD ready LCD TV, this can be HD digital television, HD DVD or an HD games console such as the Playstation 3.
So it is very wise indeed to buy an LCD TV that is HD ready and also look for the highest resolution that you can find although mostly they will be very similar. HD LCD televisions are also really cheap these days compared to when they came out and so you can buy a cheap LCD TV online easily. This is even easier seeing as we have listed all of the HD LCD televisions that we could find on the right and listed them with the cheapest first which makes buying a cheap HD LCD television very easy indeed.
